Resilient Inmates Know Hunger Is Also A Prison

By Eileen McDargh - Thursday, April 23, 2015

Last evening, my twin brother, Professor John McDargh, sent me a message. He is on the faculty of Boston College and is also a lay minister at Norfolk Men’s Prison. Every month, as they have done for many years now, Sister Kathleen Deneven OSF and John spent the evening with a remarkable group of Catholic men, who are the core of elders of the community within Norfolk State prison. Many of them are life-professed lay Dominicans. In their reflection they spoke of how the penal system in the Commonwealth renders inmates invisible so that they become the objects of the fearful projections of persons outside the wall.
